FOR GIRLS WITH CLOUDS

23 Oct FOR GIRLS WITH CLOUDS

Well aren’t you just
The most spectacular lightning
Every time I see you
I want you closer
And brighter
And longer, I do
But when you come near
I remember that you keep company
With earthquakes and thunder
Rain and flood and fire
And I worry that you and I
Are a little too good at pretending
Those clouds aren’t there
Dangerous thing to underestimate,
A cloud
They can be nothing one minute
And Hurricane the next
I pray yours are empty
Or at least carry winds and pours
That I can withstand

And then I wonder…
How you must feel in all this?
How you must feel to be lightning
To be so violently spectacular
Amidst such a daunting storm
You come to me in bursts
But where are you when
You aren’t busy lighting up the sky
Are you in those clouds?
Are they your captor?
How much of you
Has banished yourself there?
When you strike the ground,
Are you looking for me?
Think me a foolish boy, they will
But Until I know for certain
I will stand in the rain
And try to make myself
Easy to find.
